The Maxim sod kicker is the environmentally-friendly way to cut in a new garden, strip sections of lawn for landscaping, or create a trench for installing invisible fencing. It requires no gas or oil and is noise-free. The sod kicker features a 12-in. blade that removes sod and roots, a lightweight design, and is easy to operate with a simple kicking and pushing motion.

I'm slowly turning my front yard into a water-wise garden and didn't want to commit to multiple $$ rentals of a 300 pound machine, or 1 $$$ rental and then having the entire yard gone before I'm ready. The area is about 50 feet by 25 feet, and went through a severe drought a few years ago that left the sod patchy. This has been a great option for me, a 40 year old woman with sports-injured legs. Put it together in 20 minutes with a couple of wrenches. I love that it's not a complicated gas machine.
The tool has worked great, and is well worth the money for my ongoing project. The dead areas didn't roll up perfectly but that's fine. Hauling sod is a slog either way. Something that has really helped me is wearing work boots with tough soles. Of course the instructions recommend this but I started in my gardening shoes (old sneakers) and almost blew my ankle out. My fault. Other than that, it's a workout but since I own it I can take the time I need.

I am xeriscaping a formerly heavily irrigated grass yard in a desert climate. This sod kicker has been an indispensable help clearing out all the sod. Yes, it does take significant effort and you will improve with some practice with this tool but it can definitely do the job! Check out this massive pile of dead sod I have removed in the photo. If that doesn’t excite you, nothing will! I have about that much more to do still but I have 100% confidence in this thing.

Solid piece of equipment. Easy to assemble. And worked great on my sod replacement project. Saved me a lot of hard work with a shovel and did an even job of taking out the sod level.

Works well in sandy soil but much more effort needed in clay-like soil. Still, beats renting a machine.

Well made tool, sharp blade. Great for cutting sod out for smaller projects. If you are moving a large amount of sod, rent a gas powered cutter

I recently purchased this sod kicker to assist with a major landscaping project in my yard. I desired to take on the project myself to cut costs. I am amazed at how easy it is to use, especially after a rain or having wet the area where you wish to remove sod. I am a 4'11" senior female and have easily removed sod from a large portion of my yard using this product. I highly recommend it if you have this type of project.
